Ambassador Program Goals and Objectives

The Ambassador Program is run by a partnership between the City of Toronto’s Health Department, the Pape Adolescent Resource Centre and the Toronto District School Board and Central Toronto Youth Services.

Youth are Skilled.
The Partnership has great experience in working with youth at risk in Toronto and recognizes that a combination of personal, family, and social conditions contributes, to school dropout, and other difficulties in our society. The Partnership recognizes that given sufficient support youth can learn to use the skills they have to benefit themselves and the larger community. The key vehicle for this process is to identify youth who are ready to move forward, value the skills that they come with, show them how they can use this knowledge to make the positive changes that they want in their lives, and support them as they learn be successful in new ways.

GOAL
The goal is to develop a model, positive, peer support program to formulate interventions, which address personal, family, and social conditions, which may lead to, school dropout, drug abuse, violence and other social dysfunctions.

OJECTIVES
To formulate strategic interventions with measurable outcomes to address personal, family, and social conditions among youth at risk;

To create a positive peer support group (The Ambassadors) to carry out these strategic interventions;

To create an alternative school which combines academic and co-operative education (The Ambassador School).

To increase the Ambassadors’ success in school and the work force;

To reduce violence and substance use among the Ambassadors, according to individual needs;

To increase awareness of the consequences of; dropping out of school, substance abuse and violence issues among youth at risk in the community.
